WEEK SIX:The Bobcats enter week six (2-3) on the season as they prepare to host the Texas Colts (4-0). The Colts have been firing on all cylinders this season, and they're sure to try a keep it that way as they face the Bobcats on their own turf. The current record isn't a clear indication on the level of play the Bobcats are capable of, but they plan on proving that this week. The game is at Concordia HS. with kickoff scheduled for 6pm.
SUMMARY: On Saturday, 3/25, the Tomball Bobcats hosted their divisional opponent, and defending 2016 TUFA Champion Texas Colts at Concordia Lutheran High School. This would be the second and final regular season game between the two teams. It was a defensive battle for the majority of the game. Both teams would go scoreless in the first quarter, but the Colts would be the first team on the board with a deep corner pass and impressive catch by a Colt's wide receiver. The Colts would miss their extra point attempt, but held a 6-0 lead with 12:11 left in the second quarter. The Bobcats would respond later with a drive of their own, including a 24 yard pass from #1 Robert Vines to #3 Derrick Santee as he was able to keep both feet in bounds while taking a big hit from the Colt's safety. A few plays later the Bobcats would punch it in for another touchdown with a 3 yard run by #33 Earl Nixon. The Bobcats would also miss their extra point leaving the game tied 6-6 with 5:43 left in the third quarter.
Each team would go three-and-out on their next possession, but the Colts would return the punt inside the Bobcats 25. With less than two minutes left in the half, the Colts would attempt to score but had to settle for a 32 yard field goal attempt. That attempt would be blocked by the Bobcat's defense sending the game into halftime with the score still tied 6-6. The Colts would receive the kick in the second half, but would quickly turn the ball over three plays later with an amazing interception by the Bobcats Defensive End, #94 Charles Woods, on the Colts 38 yard line. This turnover and good field position would lead to a 47 yard field goal made by Tomball's kicker, #18 Mark Dearing. This would give the Bobcats the 9-6 lead with 9:17 in the third quarter. Unfortunately, that lead wouldn't last long as the Colts returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. The Colts extra point would again be blocked by #96 Davante Smith leaving the Colts only the 12-9 lead. The game would continue scoreless into the fourth quarter. With only 5:26 remaining, the Colts managed to get a big play off on the Bobcats defense leading to a Colts touchdown, another failed 2 point conversion. This would increase the Colts lead to 18-9.
Tomball would return to the field and seemingly abandon their running game trying for the quick score. This would force the Bobcats to go for it on fourth down with time running out, but would ultimately turn the ball over on downs at their own 35 yard line. The Colts would score again on their next possession with the Bobcats defense attempting to strip the ball and failing to tackle the ball carrier. After the successful extra point the Colts would again increase their lead to 25-9 with only 3:59 left in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats offense, trying anything now to score quickly facing a 16 point deficit, would attempted a deep pass that was intercepted and returned for yet another but final touchdown. The Colts would miss the extra point attempt, but the commanding 31-9 lead which would ultimately be the final score.
